1. DONATE FOOD
Donate food in boxes at many local organizations collecting for the food shelf or participate in a special food drive. A good rule of thumb, If you’d serve it, we need it.
2. DONATE MONEY
Make a donation online via PayPal (link), or make out a tax-deductible check payable to New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf and mail it to New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf PO Box 761 New Ulm, MN 56073.
3. HOST A FOOD DRIVE
Hosting a food drive is a hands-on way for your school, office, group, or place of worship to join the fight against hunger. Drives can be held year-round and are an important resource for the New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf. Hosting a drive is easy, and we will help you through the process. Please e-mail us to receive tips for planning a successful drive and to register your event. Also, see the Plan an Event information on our Events page.
4. ADOPT A SHELF OR UTILITY
Make a difference and Adopt-A-Shelf by selecting a designated food shelf at the Food Shelf and bringing in those items every week for a month. Or, Adopt-A-Utility by selecting a utility and cover those expenses for a month or a year — whatever time frame matches your ability to donate.
5. VOLUNTEER AT THE FOOD SHELF
New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf always need volunteers from our community to help with the many food shelf activities. Volunteers help clients select food, and sort food and stock the shelves. They also assist with food drives and special events. To volunteer, contact the food shelf at (507)766-4082 or send us an e-mail and we will add you to the Community Volunteer List. To learn more about volunteering at the food shelf, please read our Volunteer Training Handbook. It contains important information about volunteering and gives specific information for Client Assistants & Sorters/Stockers. A special thanks to our many volunteers!
New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf requires that volunteers complete a Volunteer Registration Form prior to the first time they volunteer at the food shelf. Copies of the Volunteer Registration form are available at the food shelf and can be completed and returned right before you volunteer. An electronic copy of the form is also available online. Volunteers can complete the fillable PDF Volunteer Registration Form (link) and print it and deliver it to the food shelf at 1305 S Valley St, New Ulm, MN 56073 or mail it to the food shelf at P.O. Box 761, New Ulm, MN 56073. If they prefer, volunteers can save and send their form to the food shelf at email@example.com
Volunteers under 18 must have their parent/guardian sign their registration form. All volunteers will also read and sign the TEFAP Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement once a year. By signing it, volunteers agree that they will keep confidential individual and household information that they may obtain either directly or indirectly while volunteering at the food shelf. The agreement is found at the end of the Volunteer Training Handbook.
